It can&#039;t open the beak all the way, but it&#039;s enough" /></a><br /> For the beak, it was a lot trickier! With the top and bottom beak parts loose, I figured out that with some cardboard and a paperclip triangle, you could keep it steady and open and close it. The servo at the back just pushes and pulls the cardboard.</p> <p>When its fully completed, I want to make my WaterBrrd say my tweets by chirping and flapping its wings twice, or have it tell me the weather and current temperature. The possibilities are endless!<br /> <a href="http://sylviashow.com/sites/default/files/post-images/Dadmin/IMG_4109.JPG" class="yoxview_thumbnail"><img class="post-img-c" typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://sylviashow.com/sites/default/files/styles/blog_large/public/post-images/Dadmin/IMG_4109.JPG?itok=h7-4SXjQ" alt="Sylvia&#039;s WaterBrrd in progress of being hooked up" title="Work in progress, not quite there yet!" /></a></p> <p>For right now, its flapping its wings, beaking around, blinking its eyes, and talking with an old android phone my dad hooked up. The programming was <em>all</em> done by me.</p> <p><a href="http://sylviashow.com/sites/default/files/post-images/Dadmin/IMG_4114.JPG" class="yoxview_thumbnail"><img class="post-img-c" typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://sylviashow.com/sites/default/files/styles/blog_large/public/post-images/Dadmin/IMG_4114.JPG?itok=TYSGw8fz" alt="Waterbrrd sitting on table with glowing eyes" title="Finished Product! The robobrrd will be a great kit and I can’t wait till it comes out! Sylvia had a blast playing celebrity for the moment, then it has back to the cool stuff.</p> <p>What few makers were setup, still had lots to show off. From <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joylabs/makey-makey-an-invention-kit-for-everyone?ref=live">a kickstarter</a> we'd only seen last week was <a href="http://makeymakey.com/">Makey Makey</a>, an instant touch interface for makers to turn anything conductive into a keyboard key. In other words, make your copper layer as through you're looking at it from the component side. If your traces and pads end up in the wrong orientation, your ICs won't install correctly and you could even damage some components. You can use it to help make graphics for your MiniPOV, or you can just make something and save it for others to see. <a href="/minipov">Click here to give it a go!</a></p> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"> <h3 class="field-label">Tags&nbsp;</h3> <span class="field-items"> <a href="/tags/adafruit" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Adafruit</a>, <a href="/tags/electronics" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">electronics</a>, <a href="/tags/led" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">led</a>, <a href="/tags/minipov" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">MiniPOV</a>, <a href="/tags/soldering" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">soldering</a>, <a href="/tags/programming" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">programming</a> </span> </div> Wed, 23 Feb 2011 04:58:37 +0000 Super-Awesome Sylvia 15 at http://sylviashow.com http://sylviashow.com/blog/sylvia/2011/02/22/minipovs-are-fun-make-and-even-more-fun-hack#comments Super Simple Adjustable Strobe for Arduino http://sylviashow.com/strobe <div class="field field-name-field-episode field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><article id="node-7" class="node node-episode node-promoted node-teaser clearfix" about="/episodes/s1/e3/full/arduino" typeof="sioc:Item foaf:Document" role="article"> <header class="clearfix"> <h2 class="title node-title"><a href="/episodes/s1/e3/full/arduino">Sylvia&#039;s Simple Arduino Projects</a></h2> </header> <span property="dc:title" content="Sylvia&#039;s Simple Arduino Projects" class="rdf-meta element-hidden"></span><span property="sioc:num_replies" content="0" datatype="xsd:integer" class="rdf-meta element-hidden"></span> <div class="content clearfix"> <div class="field field-name-field-ep-preview field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/episodes/s1/e3/full/arduino"><img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://sylviashow.com/sites/default/files/styles/episode_teaser/public/episode-previews/EP03_super_simple_arduino_0.jpg?itok=WP2nxhGC" width="300" height="200" alt="" /></a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-ep-youtube field-type-link-field field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xCY2K9kQz4" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xCY2K9kQz4</a></div></div></div> </div> <footer> <nav class="links"> <ul class="links inline"><li class="node-readmore first last"><a href="/episodes/s1/e3/full/arduino" rel="tag" title="Sylvia&#039;s Simple Arduino Projects">Read more<span class="element-invisible"> about Sylvia&#039;s Simple Arduino Projects</span></a></li> </ul> </nav> </footer> </article> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Welcome to the official project page for Super Awesome Sylvia's Adjustable Strobe for Arduino. " title="Fritzing view of the Super Simple Adjustable Strobe. It&#039;s just the Arduino, a potentiometer, and an LED!" /></a></p> <p>The Super Simple Adjustable Strobe for Arduino will allow you to stop time! Ok, not really, but it <em>will</em> let you see things that move really fast like fans and water droplets. By timing the flashing LED to turn on at the exact time that the moving thing happens to be in the same position it was in the last time the LED was on, it makes the subject look motionless! This project is less than perfect for stopping things in their tracks, but it'll get you started and experimenting in no time. All it takes is a bright LED and a potentiometer! And if you're feeling really adventurous, fork the code on github and add your own features!</p> <p>Be sure and check out <a href="http://cre.ations.net/creation/the-time-fountain">Nate True's Time Fountain</a> for a great example of a cool home use for stroboscopes.</p> <!-- Creative Commons License --><p><a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/GPL/2.0/"><br /><img alt="CC-GNU GPL" border="0" src="http://creativecommons.org/images/public/cc-GPL-a.png" /></a><br /><br /> This software is licensed under the <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/GPL/2.0/">CC-GNU GPL</a> version 2.0 or later.</p> <!-- /Creative Commons License --></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"> <h3 class="field-label">Tags&nbsp;</h3> <span class="field-items"> <a href="/tags/arduino" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Arduino</a>, <a href="/tags/electronics" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">electronics</a>, <a href="/tags/led" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">led</a>, <a href="/tags/potentiometer" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">potentiometer</a>, <a href="/tags/strobe" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">strobe</a>, <a href="/tags/light" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">light</a>, <a href="/tags/pov" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">POV</a> </span> </div> Tue, 31 Aug 2010 05:55:22 +0000 TechNinja 23 at http://sylviashow.com http://sylviashow.com/strobe#comments
